Recently, on the Zoomlion 450-ton crawler crane, precision traction was used to gently lift the Hubei PanKou pumped storage power station unit 1 seat ring, from a height of dozens of meters into the pit in place. The maximum rotary diameter of the hoisted seat ring is more than 13 meters, making it the largest pumped storage unit seat ring currently in operation. Its successful hoisting marks the beginning of the peak period for installing the turbine unit’s buried parts at the power station.
The Pankou Pumped Storage Power Station is a national pumped storage medium- and long-term development planning project and a key implementation project of Hubei Province’s “14th Five-Year Plan”. It is also an ultra-low-head pumped storage project with the largest head variance and the largest diameter of rotor currently under construction in China. As the core component of the buried parts of the hydraulic turbine, the seat ring plays a skeleton role in the whole unit, and its installation quality directly affects the operational efficiency and stability of the whole unit. The seat ring of this lifting unit was transported to the site in two flaps, with single flaps weighing about 92 tons and 85 tons, and the total weight of the single unit was 177 tons, with a maximum outer diameter of 10.1 meters and a height of 3.14 meters.
In the face of such a huge object, coupled with the narrow plant, site constraints, and the risks associated with lifting cross operations, safely lifting the seat ring to the established pit with millimeter-level precision is a considerable challenge. The contractor’s project department, after careful study and careful consideration, finally selected the Zoomlion 450-ton crawler crane, this “steel arm,” to take on the heavy responsibility.
